The Mayan Calendar

Assignment

Had a great time researching, designing, and illustrating this two-panel infographic that depicts the cycle of the Mayan calendar system. The Mayans closely monitored the solar system, creating an elaborate calendar with a cycle that lasted 52 years. The years broke down into months weeks and days — these unique numbers were integrated into the architecture; either through more straightforward representations such as the number of steps on a pyramid, or more elaborate manifestations — specifically a shadow in the form of a snake appearing only on the vernal equinox.
